We were looking forward to our stay at the Miracle Grand Convention Hotel however our visit proved to be less enjoyable than expected. The hotel is conveniently located 15 minutes from Don Muang Airport. This was part of the reason we chose staying here: we are not fans of Bangkok traffic. Our room was spacious and initially seemed quite comfortable: we were looking forward to getting a good night's sleep after a long trip. Unfortunately the air-con was pre-set at 25 and could not be adjusted lower. As we'd already unpacked before noticing, we decided not to change rooms. It detracted from an otherwise pleasant stay. On checking out we elected to wait in the spacious lobby / restaurant area - the hotel at 10:00 was quite quiet. We sat it what we thought was a quiet corner away from the restaurant and bar areas only to be informed the area was reserved for restaurant patrons (see photo). So we were moved to a couple of lounge chairs directly opposite the bar; these being designated as the "waiting area"....

I stayed at the Miracle Grand for a conference because it was close to the venue and the course organizers selected it. I’ll start off with the positive. First, for the most part, the staff were very accommodating and professional. I had a problem with my television and fire stick and they were able to fix it fairly quickly. Second, the hotel laundry service was very fast, efficient, and affordable. I rarely use hotel laundry but had to in this instance due the amount of time I was going to be there. I was very pleasantly surprised. Third, the bathroom was quite functional, and the shower had great water pressure. Sadly, this is the end of my review regarding the POSITIVE aspects of my stay at the Miracle Grand. Sadly, now the negatives. It first starts with the room itself. While room itself may look pleasing to the eye, it severely lacks in function. First off, there is no closet to speak off, just a wall with a bar that has several hangers to hang clothes that’s above the built-in luggage rack. Second, there are no drawers to place clothes in. Just one drawer each on the nightstands and two small drawers on the wall by the “closet.” Third, there was no dedicated work area in the room. No desk and chair at all. There is a small alcove at the end of the room with a built-in sofa and a small roundtable. That is where I had to work from during my time in the hotel. Fourth, while there was a mini-fridge in the room, it barely was able to keep items cool, much less cold. Overall, the room, while being attractive to the eye was NOT fit for purpose. Next is the food. While the breakfast buffet was decent, the dinner buffet was the direct opposite. The selection on offer were generally not appealing. In relation to the a la carte dinner menu, the selections on offer were fairly limited and when I ordered from it, the food was rather bland, at best. The room service menu had a greater variety of food items and was fairly tasty. However, when room service came to deliver the food, rather than roll it in on the table as usually happens in hotels, he simply picked it up off the table and placed it on the bed, as there was literally nowhere else to put it. I had to take the small alcove table, which I was using as my workspace, and use that as a dining room table. Next and the most egregious is the internet service. I have stayed in hotels, motels and everything in between and the Miracle Grand had the ABSOLUTE WORST internet service I ever encountered. Not only was I not able to connect all of my devices at the same time, but the internet would consistently drop, and I would have to reconnect manually. By consistently drop, I would mean MULTIPLE times in an hour. Sometimes as frequently as every few minutes. During my stay at the hotel, I had an important ZOOM meeting. The internet kept cutting out during the call. It got to the point that I ended up using my mobile phone as a hotspot to finish the call. I was not the only one that experienced these problems. Other conference attendees also suffered these outages. It was so bad that conference attendees that had planned on staying in Bangkok for several days after the conference, all planned to check out as soon as the conference was over and move to another hotel. If I ever attend another conference and they recommend the Miracle Grand as the conference hotel, I’ll choose another hotel and simply commute to the conference. I really hate writing reviews like this but I just have to be honest.

Like everything, you always get what you pay for. I needed a hotel close to the airport but also a room I could work from - zoom meetings etc. I picked the hotel as it markets itself as a business hotel. £60 for a room with breakfast was a reasonable rate for Bangkok. I understand some floors have been renovated so I can’t comment on the new rooms, our room was very tired and in need of modernisation. The internet unfortunately was the worst I’ve seen throughout Thailand, it was impossible to conduct a video meeting without dropping out. Embarrassing when it’s a business hotel, hopefully this will be fixed. Breakfast was as you’d expect, wide range of Asian and western items plus an egg station. The coffee machine was painfully slow and there only seemed to be one. The gym was well equipped and spacious. Lots of potential but the basics need fixing.
